Brandywine Falls, Cuyahoga Valley

Adventure of the Day…

Destination
In seeking extreme beauty, a mini-adventure, and inspiration one random Sunday afternoon, I remembered Brandywine Falls in Sagamore Hills, Ohio. This 65-foot waterfall in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park was formed by Brandywine Creek and became my journey of the day.

The View
The falls are breathtaking and awe-inspiring, with multiple layers and colors. Sometimes, simply soaking in beautiful magnificence is a method to quiet the mind. That tactic certainly worked for me. And I was not alone in my desire. I witnessed all sorts of people silently gazing at the waterfall, taking pictures, or talking quietly. I heard several different languages and saw all walks of life—from little kids, couples, singles, and women in saris to bicyclists, a rock-n-roller dude, a motorcycle couple, and a girl with purple hair. (If I were truly adventurous, I would dye my hair purple too, but that’s an adventure for another day.)

Wildlife
For quite some time, I watched a giant white butterfly flutter up and down and all around the falls. I wondered what he experienced that day. I also walked around the neighboring property, watching and listening to birds along the way as well as observing a backyard full of about ten chickens in varying colors.

Song of the Day
Earlier that day, I had a rather displeasing ’80s song ear-worming over and over in my brain. I opt not to share the name of the tune in the hopes of sparing anyone else this suffering. Thankfully, though, I replaced that song with The Crow and The Butterfly by Shinedown. This amazing song has absolutely nothing to do with the waterfall, but watching the butterfly brought the lyrics and melody to my mind.

Inspiration
My overall feelings after experiencing the gorgeousness of Brandwine Falls were curiosity, peacefulness, calm, and energetic. I felt a great desire to get in my car, blast the tunes, and have an impromptu road trip, maybe even to drive out West. (Yes, that will be an adventure in my near future!) But for that day, I ended up driving around, looking at trees, interesting road signs, and singing very loudly to music.

What are your favorite songs to sing to loudly in the car?
